Yum, banh mi in Paris!
They also have duck as well and cold drinks along with soy dessert. We were searching for food around 7-8pm and many places were already closed. We stumbled upon this place and were pleasantly surprised.
Sandwiches for about 3-4 euros.
This 5 star review is just for customer service alone. My significant other decided to ask if they spoke Cantonese and they did! I wouldn't have expected that.
One of the employees asked us where we were visiting from and to also warn us of pickpockets. This tip was greatly appreciated even despite hearing about these warnings on the metro. It was a very kind gesture.
Food was decent, too. Their "specialty" is not the same as in the US. It also tended to be more spicy (as I have noticed with trying pho in the area), which added an extra kick!
Note - credit cards accepted if you spend a certain amount ! -

This place ranked pretty high on my to try list for my Vietnamese sandwich hunt because every time I go to Tang Frere, I get one from Thieng Heng but watch all the other people, mostly non asians, eat sandwiches from Hoa Nam as they shop. In order to be able to really review it, I bought two sandwiches and ate 1.5 of them to get a realistic idea of whether or not the sandwich here is good.
This traiteur is huge and sells all types of vietnamese food and I would definitely recommend visiting if you are looking for vietnamese specialities. Banh mi is only one of the many things they offer.
The good:
- baguette quality is really good, much better than thieng heng
- they have a special sandwich called "sandwich bi" that has a type of fried pork strings with onions that i love (3 EUR)
- their house sandwich has really good quality meat that tastes really good (2.6 EUR)
- the chili is spread evenly throughout the sandwich, unlike most of the other sandwiches i've tried which is just in one spot
- price point is similar to thieng heng across the street
The not so good:
- plastic wrap on the sandwich is environmentally unfriendly
- They put way too much carrots and garnish in the sandwich and not enough meat, especially for the sandwich bi. Most of the time, you're just eating carrots and bread
According to the other reviews which I am just seeing, they accept ticket restaurant - I should try that for the sandwiches, though I would need to buy too many of them...so maybe i'll mix it in with other stuff. I will give this place one more try and also grab a lemongrass beef one to see how i feel. For now I have to leave the review at a 3, given eating carrots and bread for 3 EUR is a deal breaker for warranting a 4 star in my books. -

If you're craving for Vietnamese sandwich and you're in a budget, this place is for you. For 2€50 their banh mi will fill your belly :) however the meat contains a lot of fat...

OH MY GOD I was freaking starving when I stumbled into this place and saw that their Banh Mi's were only 3 euros. Poor college study abroad student in Paris.. this place is literally a gem. I don't speak French so when I asked if they spoke Cantonese/Mandarin & immediately responded I felt warm and fuzzy inside.
I devoured the 3 euro pork banh mi in 3 minutes in the back where I actually got to casually seat myself in the back and encounter 0 service charge. Great to take multiple to go if you're travelling from country to country.
I love it. My home away from home. -

We picked up the special and bbq pork banh mi for just a few euro (I think it was around 3 euros each). They were delicious!! The sandwiches could have had a bit more veggies in 'em, but ah well. Plus, I liked the extra spice that was added to 'em! Yummmmmy.
They pre-make these ahead of time btw, but the place gets busy. You just grab 'n go!
